Executive & Dignitary Protection (EDP)

Instructor:

Matt Johnson - U.S. Navy SEAL veteran who served with SEAL Teams 7 and 10, including augments with DEVGRU. He completed multiple combat deployments to Afghanistan and Somalia, executing over 100 special operations missions and directly enabling the capture or elimination of 14 high-value targets.

Course Description:

This course prepares officers and security professionals to plan, execute, and adapt executive protection operataions in both permissive and non-permissive environments. Training includes threat assessment, advance work, motorcade operations, close protection formations and response to attacks or disruptions.

Day 1: Training Objectives (8 hours)

Introduction to executive/dignitary protection principles
Thread identification, risk assessment, and protective intelligence
Advance work: site surveys, route planning, venue security coordination
Professional demeanor, grooming standards, and low-profile operations

Day 2: Training Objectives (8 hours)

Protective formations (foot, static, transitional)
Embus/debus drills and motorcade security
Communications, contingency planning, and principal handoffs
Surveillance detection and counter-surveillance techniques

Day 3: Training Objectives (8 hours)

Emergency action drills (EADs) for ambushes and attacks
Evacuation techniques: mobile and on foot
Cover andevacuation under threat
Coordination with local law enforcement and emergency services

Day 4: Training Objectives (8 hours)

Scenario-based principal protection exercises
Venue security management for events and high-rish locations
Media and crowd management protocols
Managing non-compliant individuals and threats without escalation

Day 5: Training Objectives (8 hours)

Full-scale executive protection detail operation (advance + live movement)
Red cell threat injects and real-time decision-making
Team leader responsibilities, communication under pressure
Final evaluation, AAR, and certification debrief

Primary and Secondary Weapon Systems
Rifle Sling and Weapon Retention System
Duty Vest, Belt and Full Operational Loadout
Clear Eye Protection (ANSI rated)
Long sleeve Shirt or Uniform Top
Notepad and pen

Communications equipment (radios, headsets)
Chem Lights
Planning Aids (for Day 3 scenario work)
Supplemental team equipment (drones, robots)
