Science Takes Center Stage in Renovated Building

OCC’s Health Science & Nursing programs are coming together on the Orchard Ridge campus in Farmington Hills.

The complete makeover of Orchard Ridge’s H building includes two additions:

• A new wing
• A new second story 

The new wing to the west will house the Dental Hygiene clinic. This community-serving clinic has been a fixture on the Waterford campus and will continue to brighten smiles in its new, state-of-the-art home. 

All science classes at Orchard Ridge will move to the state-of-the-art labs on the new floor. You’ll also find new group study rooms and gathering spaces throughout this addition. The classrooms are built for interactive learning and the emerging technology space features an interactive anatomy table.

 

 

Highlights of the Renovation

Open, Modern and Spacious

The new science facilities include up-to-date fixtures and elbow room. All this space makes it possible for 150 sections of science classes to be offered every semester at Orchard Ridge. Study and practice for your health sciences career all in a single building (until you have clinicals, that is). Work together on group projects, or quiz each other for the next test. The group study rooms are just as modern as the labs. 

Professionalism Takes Practice

Practice working with patients and other healthcare professionals in a life-like, safe setting. The first floor of the renovated Building H will be the new home for the OCC Health Sciences Simulation Center.

The new Simulation Center will have:

• A 2-bay ICU room
• A labor & delivery room
• A simulated home with living space and bathroom
• Mannikin repair room
• Debriefing rooms
• Moulage room for making mannikins and simulated patients more realistic

New and More Convenient Dental Clinic

Turn to the OCC Dental Hygiene Clinic for routine cleanings, x-rays, bleaching, and more. Our students work under licensed dental experts to provide affordable care to OCC students, staff members, and local residents. The new clinic includes a simulation station where Dental Hygiene students can practice on a mannikin. 
 
Our new clinic in the re-imagined H building will also be more convenient when it opens in 2027. Three SMART bus routes serve the Orchard Ridge campus:

• 740 (Twelve Mile Crosstown)
• 780 (Fifteen Mile Crosstown)
• 851 (W. Bloomfield/Farmington Hills Park & Ride)

Dedicated Sim Technology for Each Program

Each clinical program will have dedicated sim facilities:

• Dental Hygiene: Modern clinic and sumulation space with practice mannikin
• Diagnostic Medical Sonography: 6 bays, 2 simulation spaces and waiting area for volunteers 
• Medical Assisting: 4 patient rooms plus a lab 
• Nursing: 31 patient bays, a medication dispensary and point of care cart 
• Radiologic Tech: 2 fully functional X-ray rooms and VR system
• Respiratory Therapy: 2 simulated hospital rooms with control room, functional patient headwalls with oxygen and patient monitors. 
• Surgical Tech: 2 simulated operating rooms, plus sterile processing area
