OCC is Michigan's only program recognized for student pass rates of 90% or higher across all three levels of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) education
Oakland Community College has earned Michigan's Superior Testing Achievement Recognition
(STAR) award for its Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Rescue/Medical First
Responder and Paramedic student pass rates of 90% or higher in 2024, the most recent
year awarded.
Presented by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), the award recognizes achievement across all three levels of EMS education.
OCC was the only program in Michigan to earn this honor across all three EMS levels.
"Our programs are dedicated to student success, and this recognition is a testament
to the hard work of our outstanding instructors, dedicated staff and students, said
David Ceci, Executive Director of Emergency Services Academies and Dean of Public
Services. “Our student pass rates exceed the national average, and we've continued
to achieve this again this past year.”
Ceci said rigorous academic standards help prepare students for both certification
exams and careers serving their communities. More than 91% of OCC's 2024 Paramedic
graduates secured jobs, with similar placement rates across its Emergency Medical
programs.
