Oakland Community College’s Pre-Apprenticeship program’s endorsement for the Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certificate (MARC) has been renewed for the upcoming year by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) Workforce Development State Apprenticeship Expansion team and the Michigan Apprenticeship Advisory Body (MAAB).

The MARC renewal recognizes that OCC’s quality, Pre-Apprenticeship program has maintained the high standards required for MARC endorsement and is directly contributing to the expansion of the U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAP) by:

  • Connecting participants directly with high-quality RAP opportunities
  • Preparing talent with essential skills needed for long-term RAP completion
  • Awarding related instruction academic credits
  • Providing a proven return on investment for Michigan’s employers and job seekers

To receive the MARC renewal, OCC must receive U.S. DOL approved apprenticeship sponsors commitment of the College’s Pre-Apprenticeship program to be recognized in the state as a quality training program.

“We are grateful to the employers who gave us their support letters that enabled us to receive the MARC renewal, and we look forward to continuing to build on these important apprenticeship partnerships that benefit both the apprentices and College,” said Cameron Albring, OCC’s Director of Career Services and Apprenticeships.

OCC had three business apprenticeship partners this past year and will add four employers to the program in the coming year.  The current business partners include AtomTechFEV North AmericaMAG, Smith Bros.Tool, Systematic Manufacturing Inc., Tech Mechanical and Triple Inc.
