The next time you see a live view of Royal Oak during a WDIV Local 4 weather forecast, it will be coming to you from Oakland Community College (OCC).
OCC partnered with WDIV to install a new high-definition 4Warn Weather camera atop
the College’s Culinary Studies Institute building in downtown Royal Oak, expanding the station’s live weather and traffic
coverage across Metro Detroit.
The live video began appearing in station broadcasts in March 2026 and was added to
the ClickOnDetroit website and app in late April. The new camera delivers live, around-the-clock views
of downtown Royal Oak and surrounding areas, providing viewers with real-time weather
and traffic conditions.
WDIV negotiated the partnership with OCC in 2025 as part of the station’s continued
investment in its 4Warn Weather forecast technology.
“When WDIV approached us about bringing live cam shots from the top of the Culinary
building, we saw it as a great opportunity to showcase OCC’s strong community connections
and the significance of our Culinary Studies Institute in downtown Royal Oak,” said
Liz Schnell, OCC Vice Chancellor of Marketing, Communications and Admissions.
Mounted on a 10-foot mast atop the new three-story building, the camera is the tallest
structure on the building’s roof and provides sweeping city skyline views and traffic
corridors. The live feed is integrated into WDIV broadcasts and digital platforms.
The Royal Oak camera joins WDIV’s growing network of live cameras positioned across
Metro Detroit, including Downtown Detroit, Detroit Metro Airport, the Detroit Riverfront,
Ann Arbor, Mt. Clemens, Belleville and Rochester Hills.
