Become a Peer Mentee

What You Will Do

• Communicate with your mentor by email, phone, in person, or another channel that works for you
• Set specific goals for what you want to get out of the mentoring relationship
• Take initiative, invite your mentor to meet, suggest topics, and ask for what you need
• Be professional and appropriate in requests to your mentor (this is a mentoring relationship, not a tutoring relationship)

What You Get

• A mentor who is already navigated the path you are on
• Help connecting to academic and campus resources
• A built-in community, many mentor/mentee groups grow into lasting friendships

Confidentiality

The mentoring relationship should be based on trust and honesty. Information shared within the context of the relationship should be handled with discretion, and confidentiality should be honored in most situations. However, for the well-being of all involved parties, including the College, confidentiality cannot be offered in the following situations:

• The mentor/mentee talks about suicide.
• The mentor/mentee discusses intentions to harm another person.
• The mentor/mentee discusses an incident of sexual misconduct/harassment that occurred at the College.
