Computer Support Technician
Program Description
Computer Support Technician students will gain the foundational skills and knowledge to provide technical assistance to computer users in the workplace. Key modules include CompTIA Tech+ and A+ along with additional employer-driven components. Students will use TestOut simulation program, tour a network lab and engage in hands-on activities. The CST is prepared to enter the workforce with entry-level knowledge to resolve computer issues, answer user inquiries and set up software and hardware. Upon successful completion students may earn the CompTIA Tech+, CompTIA A+, and NCSA CCSP Customer Service certificates along with a Mike Rowe Work Ethic certificate and Certificate of Completion from OCC.

- Schedule: Full-time, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Module Descriptions
CompTIA Tech+ – 60 hours
Students will gain the knowledge and skills required to identify and explain the basics
of computing, IT infrastructure, software development and database use. This module
also covers the basics of software installation, network connectivity and identification/prevention
of security risks.
CompTIA A+ – 99 hours
This module will build on existing user-level knowledge and experience with PC software
and hardware to present fundamental skills and concepts. Students will learn to install,
configure, troubleshoot, optimize and perform preventative maintenance of basic computer
hardware and operating systems, as well as cloud computing and virtual machines.
Customer Service – 26 hours
Students will be introduced to a variety of topics in order to maximize the service
to customers – both external and internal. Through lecture, case study, and engaging
activities, participants will address personal strengths and weaknesses and learn
how to apply the best practices of customer service while on the job.
Business and Technical Writing – 16 hours
This module will help students develop writing skills to create effective documents
and reports used in an IT setting. Participants will learn to develop clear and concise
written communication. Topics covered include audience, planning, drafting and revision
processes.

Workplace Competencies
Students will improve competence in skills that are essential to success in the workplace.
Students will address communication skills and explore how to establish a stronger
work ethic.
Career Readiness
Students will be provided with resources and tools to be successful in the labor market.
Personal branding, including resume and interview skills, will be addressed with
the assistance of a career coach. Students will learn how to utilize LinkedIn as
part of the job search process.
Employer Engagement
Students will gain greater understanding of the Information Technology industry through
employer interactions such as on-site guest speakers, job shadowing, and Interview
Day.
