Logistics Technician

Program Description

The Logistics Technician program will provide students with foundational and mid-level knowledge to understand the world of supply chain logistics and related core competencies.  Students will gain the general knowledge to successfully perform key work activities used in the supply chain workforce along with more in-depth knowledge used by both technicians and supervisors when tracking the flow of a product - including arrival, processing, storage and shipment. Students will be prepared for front-line material handling and supply chain logistics jobs in fulfillment centers, warehouses, distribution centers, and factories. Upon successful completion of the training students may earn the OSHA 10-hour General Industry certification, Certified Logistics Associate and Certified Logistics Technician certifications as well as a Mike Rowe Work Ethic certificate and Certificate of Program Completion from OCC.

Module Descriptions

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry – 10 hours
This course provides training for entry-level workers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces, as well as information regarding workers’ rights and employer responsibilities.  Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers have the knowledge they need to stay safe on the job.  Students who successfully complete this course receive an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry card from the OSHA Training Institute – a credential that holds value for a lifetime.

Certified Logistics Associate – CLA (Foundational Level) – 35 hours:
The Course provides students with the foundational broad knowledge they will need to understand the world of supply chain and related core competencies. Learning materials include online live instruction, PDF textbook and e-learning modules. The Course includes modules on: the global supply chain, the logistics environment, safety, safe equipment operation, material handling equipment, quality control, workplace communication, teamwork and problem solving and using computers.  

Certified Logistics Technician – CLT (Mid-level Technician) – 35 hours:
This Course provides students with the mid-level technical knowledge needed to understand the world of supply chain logistics and related core competencies. Learning materials include online live instruction, PDF textbook and e-learning modules. This Course includes: product receiving, product storage, order processing, packaging and shipment, inventory control, safe handling of hazardous materials, evaluation of transportation modes, customs, and dispatch and tracking operations.

Additional Program Content 

Workplace Competencies
Students will improve competence in employability skills that are essential to success in the workplace.  Students will address communication and explore how to establish a stronger work ethic.

Career Readiness
Students will be provided with resources and tools to be successful in the labor market.  Personal branding, including resume and interview skills, will be addressed with the assistance of a career coach.  Students will learn how to utilize LinkedIn accounts as part of the job search process.

Paid Internship – up to 20 hours
Students will gain greater understanding of the Logistics Technician role by applying front-line material handling and supply chain knowledge gained in the classroom directly to their role in a fulfillment center, warehouse, factory, or distribution center.
